Description: The Mainichi Newspapers, Japan's oldest daily newspaper, is looking for two part-time Assistant Editors for its Brussels office. The role supports the paper's coverage of political, economic, and societal news in the EU and neighbouring regions. This position is ideal for master's students or recent graduates seeking experience in media or EU affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct web research on political and economic topics..
  • Summarize European press articles and report to colleagues.
  • Attend and take notes during EU press conferences.
  • Identify and reach out to experts in relevant fields, arrange interviews.
  • Accurately transcribe interviews
  • Verify facts and data for articles
  • Monitor key EU news developments.

Requirements:

  • Native-level fluency in English.
  • Strong web research skills and in-depth knowledge of EU and international politics.
  • A degree in the Social sciences or Humanities.
  • Additional language skills, particularly French, are a plus.
  • Experience in media or research is beneficial but not required.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both the media and EU political landscapes, with direct exposure to key EU institutions.
