The European Union of the Deaf (EUD) is a European non-profit making umbrella organisation whose membership comprises National Associations of Deaf people in each of the EU member states. Established in 1985, EUD is the only organisation representing the interests of deaf people before EU institutions. EUD maintains EU level dialogue with European Union Institutions, in consultation and co-operation with its members, the National Associations of the Deaf.
EUD is seeking an efficient Policy Officer to our Brussels-based secretariat, to reinforce the Policy Team and the wider secretariat.
- The ideal candidate is passionate about equal opportunities and the human rights approach to deaf people and National Sign Language. The ideal candidate has also an understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the EU policy-making process, has the technical ability to manage the daily work of a European-level organisation, can work effectively in written English, and can be integrated in a multilingual and multicultural work environment.
- Competence in a National Sign Language will be a considerable asset, but candidates with awareness on the deaf community, and its culture and who are willing to learn a national sign language will be welcomed too.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for designing policies bringing a positive impact to the European deaf community within the EU legislative and policy framework. This include inter alia designing policy papers, attending high-level EU events, lobbying the European Parliament, designing capacity-building materials and disseminating EUD policy outputs. The successful candidate will also monitor new policies, respond to reader comments, and collaborate with creative design.
- Competence in a national Sign Language will be an asset, but people who are aware about Deaf community, culture and willing to learn more will be welcomed too.
