Contract: Permanent (Contrat à durée indéterminée (CDI))
Report to: EHN Chief Executive Officer
Location: Brussels (Belgium)
Application Deadline: 28 November 2024
The European Heart Network (EHN) is a Brussels-based alliance of foundations and associations dedicated to addressing heart disease and stroke and supporting patients throughout Europe. EHN’s mission is to promote cardiovascular health and the prevention and reduction of cardiovascular disease, with a focus on ensuring CVD is no longer a major cause of premature death and disability across Europe. This mission will be achieved through evidence-based advocacy, research promotion, networking, capacity-building, and representing patients' and the public’s interests.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs)—including heart disease, stroke, and other atherosclerotic vascular diseases—are the leading causes of death in the European Union, resulting in over 1.8 million deaths annually. Additionally, almost 49 million people live with these conditions, which impose both a significant human and economic burden on the EU, costing approximately 210 billion euros each year.
EHN is currently seeking a motivated Manager Patients and Research to support its patient member organisations and assist them in building capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing meetings and seminars, representing EHN in the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Patients' and Consumers' Working Party, and liaising with EHN’s wider stakeholders. You will also work closely with the EHN Projects Officer and the EHN Patient consultants’ network.
Responsibilities
- Engage with the EHN patients’ group and patient consultants’ network, facilitating active interaction through meetings, seminars, and other means of information exchange.
- Establish priority issues for the development of EHN papers and positions, gather evidence, and identify research gaps.
- Monitor and analyze developments at the EU level, including initiatives and legislative proposals impacting heart and stroke patients and research, and prepare EHN responses/statements.
- Coordinate EHN responses to EU legislative proposals relevant to patients and research.
- Engage with EHN’s research-funding members, fostering interaction through the EHN Research Platform.
- Evaluate and respond to partnership requests in research projects.
Candidate Profile
- University degree or relevant education/training.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in relevant EU policy.
- Experience in health and/or patient-related policies is an asset.
- Familiarity with membership organisations (NGOs).
- In-depth knowledge of EU policy-making procedures, NGO roles, and the “How Brussels Works” context.
- Strong team spirit, communication skills, and diplomacy.
- Flexibility, multitasking ability, patience, and persistence.
- Experience in an international and multicultural environment is a plus.
- Language skills: Fluent in English (mother tongue level or equivalent); knowledge of French is useful, and other European languages are an asset.

EHN offers a challenging position within a European professional organisation based in Brussels. This is a permanent, full-time role with an excellent remuneration package.
