smartEn is the European business association of the Flexible Demand Management Industry (FDMI). Our 100+ members create opportunities for every home, car and business to support a reliable and decarbonised EU energy system by activating their demand-side flexibility.
 
smartEn is recruiting a Market Research Analyst with a good technical understanding of flexible demand to assess the development of markets and regulatory frameworks impacting the business models of the FDMI and to lead/coordinate targeted research.
 
You will be part of a dynamic, professional, international team in the EU area in Brussels and will work in strong cooperation with our broad membership of engaged companies.
 
Main responsibilities
 
• Analyse regulatory implications on the business models of the FDMI, notably impacting secondary legislations such as the Network Code for Demand Response, and coordinate the positioning of smartEn members;
• Conduct primary and secondary research and analysis to realise smartEn inhouse researches outlining the opportunities and barriers to flexible demand in specific implicit and/or explicit mechanisms in different Member States, such as the annual smartEn Maps and deliverables related to EU funded projects;
• Coordinate with external consultants to realise specific outsourced research studies, involving members throughout the entire process, such as the annual Market Monitor for Demand-side Flexibility with LCP-Delta;
• Support smartEn team with technical knowledge on demand-side flexibility and European electricity markets functioning;
• Represent smartEn in dedicated European Expert Groups;
• Interact regularly with the smartEn membership and its working groups.
 
Desired skills and experience
 
• A university degree (Master or equivalent) in energy economics, engineering or similar;
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the energy sector. Previous experience with Transmission/Distribution system operators, companies from the FDMI, research institutes or NGOs working on flexible demand and/or the decentralisation/digitalisation of the energy system is highly desired;
• A good understanding of the EU energy system, including energy markets and the functioning of demand-side flexibility;
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise time-sensitive assignments and effectively prioritise workload;
• Analytical, curious, pragmatic and flexible attitude. Willingness to deep dive into complex and/or technical files;
• Skilled in drafting concise and clear papers. Proven track-record in writing of reports and publications;
• A team-player, collaborative mindset with good networking and communication skills;
• Fluency in written and spoken English required, other European languages are an asset;
• EU citizenship/working permit.
